May is Older Americans Month in the United States, a dedicated month to recognize older adults' contributions and to reaffirm our commitment to supporting the health and independence of seniors. Established by the Administration for Community Living, and championed by organizations everywhere, this is an opportunity to focus on issues that matter to seniors and their families. This year’s theme, Champion Your Health, aims to “underscores prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as cornerstones of healthy aging. It encourages taking an active role in managing and advocating for your health, accessing preventive care, and making informed decisions. This year, we are focused on evidence-based approaches, self-management, caregiver roles, and community partnerships that empower individuals to lead healthy lives.”

Championing the health of our residents is central to the mission, vision, and values of our company. At Traditions, maximizing quality of life isn’t just a mission — it’s the foundation of every decision. Thoughtfully designed environments and expert care teams come together to create communities where older adults feel secure, engaged, and valued. These meaningful daily interactions build trust with families, improve satisfaction, and contribute to long-term stability and performance for every community we manage.

Resident quality of life is maximized when we consistently embrace these values. When we practice our core values, a culture of genuine loving care comes naturally. They shape the culture of every Traditions community and guide how we lead, manage, and care.

Dignity

Service with dignity shall permeate all interactions we have with residents, families, fellow staff and visitors. Providing service with dignity means the health of our residents is of paramount importance to us. Providing compassionate care and privacy when appropriate allows seniors to approach their health decisions in a dignified manner.

Choices

Residents must have the ability to make choices regarding their daily life to maximize a sense of self-worth. Every day our residents make choices about their care, from what community to reside in, to what they eat, what activities they participate in, and how they make important health care decisions with their families. Our team is here to support those decisions.

Socialization

Purposeful interaction with family, staff and other residents promotes friendships and activities that maximize quality of life. Being around others, friends, family, and even care providers provide essential connection that is shown to improve health outcomes and quality of life. Our communities are focused on providing that connections through a variety of activities and events. We’re also purposeful in our activities-from making quilts for local hospitals, to raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Important vs. Necessary

We all have necessary duties in our daily jobs, but we cannot let them crowd out the opportunity for important interaction with residents and families. Sometimes, it’s important to take that moment to say hello, to lend a listening ear, or to provide comfort when needed. Our team is trained to recognize these moments and intervene when appropriate or even pull together a last-minute bouquet for a resident's wife when Valentine's Day snuck up on him.  Really!

Service

Residents in our communities deserve the highest level of customer service. At our core, we’re here to provide world class service to our residents. That includes championing their health every step of the way.

Join us in championing the health of seniors this month!
